Co-op Information

What exactly is a co-op?

Put simply, a “co-op” refers to cooperative learning. A co-op is where homeschooling parents get their children together to partake in a variety of learning opportunities that are difficult to duplicate at home. Examples of these opportunities include group cooking classes, science labs, yearbook creation, etc.

If you choose to be a part of our co-op, we will expect you to remain on the premises the entire time. In the event of an emergency that requires you to leave, please place your child in the care of another adult on the premises. Even if you are not teaching a class, be sure to sign up to assist the other teachers or remain with your child and assist him/her. Our co-op is not designed to be a “drop-off” event where you leave your child and run errands for several hours, nor is it a time to hang out and socialize while other parents do most of the work. J

As noted earlier, if you wish to teach during our co-op, we do ask that you be a member of CCW. If you would like to teach any Bible-related materials, you must be a member of CCW for at least one year. This will allow other parents to feel comfortable knowing you have been introduced to and are in agreement with what the church believes.

We will offer a new schedule of classes each semester. Parents and other adults will be teaching these classes and some may even be counted toward high school credit. Homeschooled children preschool age and older are invited to take part in these classes. However, we ask that if you sign your child up for a class, please commit to him/her being there regularly. Some of our classes are cumulative and missing several of them will hinder your child’s learning curve. Some classes may have a minimal charge. This is to cover the cost of materials or to pay for a special instructor.

If you have children under the age of 3, be aware that we do not yet have a program set aside for them on co-op days. Until we have a nursery program in place, children under the age of 3 are welcome on the premises as long as they remain with you and are not a distraction to the other students.

If one or more of your children has special needs, please let the teachers know in advance. This includes any allergies or learning/behavioral/emotional challenges. Accommodations will be made with the understanding that we may ask you to remain with your child if such accommodations take too much time away from the teacher and other assistants.

Co-op Guidelines/Rules for Students:

  • Be respectful of others. This includes your teachers, peers, adults, or any younger or older students.
  • Be respectful of property. We share space with CCW, so please keep noise to a minimum and make sure your surroundings are kept in excellent condition.
  • Be on time. Your teachers will be starting their classes promptly. If you are not there, you will miss out on important information.

We realize students may need to be corrected from time to time. When this happens, we hope the student will respond to verbal correction appropriately. If however the student continues to misbehave or acts disrespectfully, he/she will be brought to his/her parent for discipline.
